Audi plans to upgrade the electrical system of its vehicles from 12 to 48 volts, which means that new technologies are coming soon.

Audi’s engineers don’t like wasting time. They have introduced an electric turbocharger together with implementing a 48-volt electrical system. This upgrade was required by an electrically powered compressor used for the diesel engine of the Audi RS 5 TDI.

And that is not the end of the story. They have also come up with plenty of ideas what benefits can be derived from using a 48-volt system. For instance, it can be used for an electrically adjusted suspension. The company assumes that 12-volt system has worked itself out.

Further development of this technology will offer fuel saving of approximately 0.4 L/100 km.
