Too good isn't good, too

Norway suffers from privileges introduced for electric cars. The government has done everything possible to make the electric vehicles popular thus causing congestion and delays for public transport.

Electric cars are exempt from Norway's sky-high sales taxes and VAT. They also have the benefits of free parking, plenty of public on-street charging stations, and free access to bus lanes.

It would have been just great if it weren’t for the fact that some of these benefits caused serious problems. And we are talking about bus lanes now.

There are around 32,000 electric vehicles registered in Norway and a great number of them occupy the bus lanes during rush hours. As reported on the Auto Evolution website, “time lost by thousands of our passengers in traffic is far greater than that gained by a few dozen electric car drivers.”

The Norwegian government is under increasing pressure to change its decision and revoke the permission to use bus lanes granted to the owners of electric vehicles.
