New Unlim 500+ Record, 250 mph — Lamborghini LP570–4 Underground Racing R2 / Altechno

Lamborghini LP570–4 Underground Racing R2 / Altechno race accompanied by engine fire outbreak

The 11th stage of Unlim 500+ speed festival was held on September 15, 2013. Exclusive cars with capacity of 500 hp and more were covering 1 mile distance. The most interesting struggle was in the Super Sport category which comprises the most powerful and efficient cars with capacity starting from 1100 hp. One of such cars is a well-known Lamborghini LP570–4 Underground Racing R2 / Altechno which previously set 1 mile WORLD RECORD — 21.8 sec. This record was set during the Unlim 500+ Training day on July 13.

This time the owner of the Italian supercar was facing an even more ambitious task — he had to cover 1 mile distance in less than 21.0 sec. The car was being actively prepared during the whole summer — it had undergone aerodynamics adaptation, weight reduction, more aggressive engine setup and other modifications, which should have helped to approach the goal. But during one of the races the engine could not withstand the load and broke into flames right on the finish line! Car’s fire-extinguishing system went off helping to avoid any serious consequences. But unfortunately the car’s engine is beyond repair.

In this race the car set Unlim 500+ 1 mile exit speed record — 23.892 sec with an exit speed 402.68 km/h (250.214 mph)!
