A new 7-seater BMW X1 SUV with a longer rear overhang will hit the market in the summer of 2016.
A front-wheel drive UKL1 platform served as the base for the new model. Under the bonnet, it will carry 3- and 4-cylinder petrol- and diesel-powered turbocharged TwinPower Turbo engines mated either to manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive will come as an option.
A long-wheelbase variant of the SUV with a third row of seats will be available in Russia, the USA, and China.
The BMW X1 is likely to have a hybrid version fitted with a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol-powered engine, an electric motor, and a lithium-ion battery.
