AE86 — this is the last rear-wheel drive Toyota Corolla, which has become so popular that it was decided to revive its name for the rear-wheel drive GT86. With a new, powerful and reliable engine 4A-GE Hachi Roku (86 in Japanese) in the mid-eighties, was able to engage many motorsports fans to the rally, circuit raicng, drag and drift.
The car was perfectly balanced in power, handling and price. And even today in different countries you can find Hachi-Roku in Entry list of a motorsports event. A special popularity was gained by AE86 among drifters, Keiichi Tsuchiya was a drift-pioneer and he showed outstanding performance while driving this car especially in power sliding and many of his followers were able to appreciate the ease, balance and handling of Hachi-Roku.
As the drift culture expanded to the ex-soviet countries AE86 fans appeared there and the famous Vladivostok car market «Green Corner» was always ready to satisfy any demand, until customs restrictions depending on the age of the car were implemented, regularly supplied rare cars to the territory of the former USSR.
Two Antons — Avdeev and Sharymov from Almaty bought a rare Toyota a couple of years ago. The car was slightly modified by the previous owner, but as it happens, the previous owner changed priorities in his life. So they got their Hach-Roku with non-native engine — 2JZ-GTE (3 Liters, biturbo, 6 cylinders inline), which was simply placed under the hood without any connection and the steering wheel was moved to the left because driving shaft was in conflict with turbines. In general, the building of the car was started almost from the scratch — the elimination of an old interior, sound insulation, the installation of the rollcage, suspension and transmission assembly — everything took a little more than 1,5 months, and since then the only thing is constantly improved and refined — a suspension.
In a drift competition a lot of attention is paid to front wheels, angles, suspension settings, spacers etc. And as a result this effects on steering and wheel bearings. That’s why the guys, unfortunately, had a lot of technical retirements, but it seems that this season they were able to get the desired configuration, which will not let them break down the suspension as much as before. Moreover all solutions will be copy-pasted to another AE86 donor, which was already purchased and is awaiting for building, because one car is still very difficult to split between two drivers.
