About 40 different cars appeared on the dragstrip of the racetrack “Nizhegorodskoye Ring”: from VAZ 2108 to Lamborghini Huracan and specially prepared promods.
The weather has given us the intrigue: no races can be made during the rain. The qualification runs were finished earlier on Saturday due to heavy rain. On Sunday, the dragstrip was already dry by the noon, and the organizers continued the qualification and final runs.
Mainly due to weather conditions, the track record of Dmitry Samorukov, achieved last week during the 2nd stage of RDRC (ET 6.708 seconds), was not renewed.
In FWD (front wheel drive) class Oksana Yakovleva (Honda Civic), who has outrun Kirill Morozov (VAZ 2109) and Yana Kholodkovskaya (Honda Civic), became the main contender after the breakage of Artem Demikhov’s VAZ 2108. In the final run, she was 0.6 seconds faster than her opponent Georgy Garakishiev (Mitsubishi Mirage). The second win in a row made her the leader of the class.
In AWD (all wheel drive) class, most participants faced the technical problems. Mitsubishi Mirage of Yan Bazhenov was broken in the start. Nissan Skyline GT-R of Dmitry Kapustin lost the actuator and the car stopped at the track. Subaru Impreza of Dmitry Mandrikov failed with the suspension and lost the rear right wheel — the car was thrown away to the grass just few meters after the start line.
In the semifinal and in the final runs there were 4 different Nissan GT-R’s of Stanislav Lunev, Vladislav Kasheev, Konstantin Katynkin and Dimtry Matveev. The third place went to Lunev, the second — to Kasheev, Dmitry Makeev has become the winner.
RWD (rear wheel drive) class is full of very powerful cars this season: 4 promods with over 1000hp started this weekend. However, such cars can be rather capricious, like it happened with Dodge Viper DT of Dmitry Samorukov. Promod of Andrey Kravchenko won 3rd place in his run. 1400hp Dodge Viper DT of Olae Kondakov (Moscow) and 3000hp Chevrolet Camaro SS of David Vegter (Netherlands) met in the final. Oleg was 0.092 seconds faster than his opponent.
Oksana Yakovleva, FWD class: “As we expected, everything was great. I had a combative mood on my way here. Smoothly, easily, improving the result in every run I achieved my goal and now is close to the win of the championship. In Grozny we will try to make the record, we will fire on all cylinders. There will be the battle with not only opponents, but also with myself, because I want my car to be the fastest Honda in Russia. As of now, we realized only 70% of its potential. We have extra 30%, and as soon as I stop making mistakes, we will break 9 seconds. The only question is in me, but I will do it: I will study and achieve the desired goal. Even now, we improve our results and being stable like this is very important for me.”
Dmitry Matveev, AWD class: “It’s great to win after you lost before: your feelings from the win are even stronger. Last season everybody thought that 1st places were very easy to me. The previous weekend has shown — it’s not that easy. Fortunately, this weekend we were stable and fast, we are happy with the car and will make our best in Grozny. Technically, we have all the chances. I am many points behind my opponents, but it the next stage is successful to us, I will be able to catch them up.”
Oleg Kondakov, RWD class: “I think I really lucked out, because this is sport, different things happen here. Mistakes and faults lead to a bad luck, while if you do everything good leads to a good result — it’s normal. That is why I am not overestimating myself, have no euphoria. First of all, my team deserves credit for this result. I’ve already given thanks to Andrey Veremeev (CEO of company “Dragtimes”, the organizer of Russian Drag Racing Championship), because it was his idea to bring one more promod, it was he who persuaded me to drive Dodge Viper DT. Thanks to him and whole team of “Dragtimes” for preparation pf the car, for all work they ‘ve done.”
