Company LiquidPiston, run by father and son Nicholas and Alexander Students presented a new development — the engine based on Wankel's famous principle, but extremely compact. By design it is really interesting: the oval rotor rotates in a triangular chamber, which is mounted at the corners of the spark plug and the inlet and outlet channels lie inside the rotor.
According to the developers, the novelty has an impressive thermal efficiency (2–3 times higher than in conventional internal combustion engines), as well as high compression ratio (18: 1).
The combustion chambers during the cycle does not change its volume, which allows to count on increasing fuel efficiency and reduce harmful emissions. Moreover, the engine can do without the traditional water cooling.
