FIA against whisky, vodka, and Martini

Following the antismoking campaign in Formula 1, it’s time for the anti-drinking one. FIA president Jean Todt is determined on the point.

Following the antismoking campaign in Formula 1, it’s time for the anti-drinking one. FIA president Jean Todt is determined on the point.

In 2008, all tobacco advertisements disappeared from Formula 1 and it was rather difficult for some of the teams to part with their sponsors. Six years later, during the urgent meeting called by Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo and dedicated to criticisms of current F1 in general and Bernie Ecclestone in particular, Jean Todt came to his own conclusions. Formula 1 sits well with him and quiet engines do not annoy his ears. However, ads of alcoholic beverages offend his eye.

As you know, there are several “alcoholic” teams at the moment: Martini is the title sponsor of Williams, McLaren are backed by whiskey manufacturer Johnnie Walker, while Force India displays ads of Smirnoff vodka.

Dry law should be introduced in motor sports. Moreover, Jean Todt sets bag for the office of a special representative for road safety at the UN and he does not need any extra promotion of alcohol.
