Bentley continues to record the theme on the ice of Baikal

The Bentley Company, a manufacturer of sports cars, has repeatedly participated in the establishment of various speed records. In recent years, these three cars were mentioned in connection with the new developments.

For example, in 2007 the Finn Juha Kankkunen on the Bentley Continental GT showed a 321.5 km / h on the Baltic Sea ice. In 2011, he broke his own record for a convertible Bentley Continental Supersport this time overclocked to 330.7 km / h.

However, in this case it is necessary to clarify that it was specially prepared and loaded the car with the established safety cage, removed cutoff speed, braking parachute, and most importantly, with the W12 engine, running on bioethanol.

Another record speed on the Bentley Continental GT Speed established actor Idris Elba in 2015 at Pendine Sands beach in South Wales — 290.263 km / h, and this time was a serial car.

This time, Bentley turned her attention to Russia and took part in the traditional «Days of speed on the ice of Lake Baikal», organized by LAV Pro — multiple champion Russian team Andrey Leontiev.

For the fifth consecutive year at the end of winter LAV Pro and Andrei Leontiev organized record arrivals, using the most powerful cars in the world. However, this year has changed the format of the races.

If during the previous festivals speed was measured with the course and with the space on the segment kilometer route, then it looped a length of 8680 meters of the route has been built now, and the average speed was measured at a distance of over 1,000 km.

Three pilot — Andrey Leontyev and Maxim Leonov Kirill Larin — in turn succeeded each other at the wheel of the car Bentley Flying Spur W12 for 11 hours and 01 minutes. That's how much time took them to go a distance of 1006 km.

Just want to note that the organizers of the «Days of Speed» very attentively and carefully are a unique natural area of Lake Baikal. All activities take place under the strict supervision of the League Ice Captains Baikal, which shall see to it that all the garbage disposal of the territory, and all the technical work took on the additional coverage, which was covered with ice. All vehicles are technically verified. So, exclude the possibility of contact with toxic substances and products in the clear waters of the lake.

This year, some time before the festival in search of a suitable special ice surface exploration has been carried out, which is traditionally led by the main Ice Captain Alexander Burmeister. In search of a wide and flat area scouts traveled almost a third of the lake is covered with ice, at the same time, we note that for this purpose they chose vehicles with liquid gas, which allowed to make refueling most rare and provide additional environmental friendliness.

As a result, the lake Olkhon district was discovered a large, flat and dense floe the size of 14 x 5 km and a thickness of 65 to 80 cm, at which it was possible to organize and track the camp. And March 24 was held the record attempt maximum average speed at a distance of over 1,000 km.

On the ice left the car Bentley Flying Spur W12, as well as support the vehicle performed Flying Spur V8 in Beluga specification.

During the record attempt was recorded in the average speed of movement — 96 km / h, and the total average speed by GPS devices — 92 km / h. To achieve the athletes on a straight section of track had to keep moving at a speed exceeding 220 km / h and a maximum speed achieved on the track, it exceeded 262 kilometers per hour. At the moment of arrival the organizers are expecting confirmation of the record in the book of Russian and European Book of Records Records as absolute achievement.

Interestingly, in last year's car Porsche Panamera Turbo S with Andrei Leontiev places showed 85 km / h, but with the progress was zafikisirovana speed of over 285 km / h. However, compare the performance achieved in different years and at different distances can be only partly true.

The car on which to set records: a record for a production car is completely used Bentley Flying Spur with a W12 engine with a displacement of 6.0 liters and a twin-turbocharged. Car Power — 625 horsepower, torque — 800 Nm. The engine is paired with an eight-ZF transmission and makes any more powerful Flying Spur four-door model, created when a Bentley.

Flying Spur W12 has impressive dynamics: acceleration to 100 km / h takes 4.6 seconds, top speed of 322 km / h, all-wheel drive system with the distribution of traction in the proportion of 40:60 in favor of the rear axle, delivers confident movement on any roads and all weather conditions. For the record attempt the car was «booted» in tires Pirelli Sotto Zero 2. Record car on 100% corresponds to the factory specifications.

Support Car: Bentley Flying Spur V8 in Beluga specification has an engine capacity of 507l. from. and a torque of 660 Nm, is equipped with 8-speed automatic transmission. Beluga package includes exclusive 20-inch alloy wheels with black diamond cut, the radiator grille with a black glossy finish and painted in the body color lower front grille.

Tires: Winter tires Pirelli Sottozero Serie II (version W270) specialists have developed new polymers and technologies to maintain high dynamic characteristics of the tires and increase safety. Also used TDC technology (Temperature Dynamic Compound), combining and optimizing the characteristics of mixtures intended for wet and icy road surfaces, and provides improved dynamic characteristics of the car on a wet road at winter temperatures — from 0 ° C to —35 ° C.
