NHRA. Achievements

It would seem that, for more than sixty-year history of professional drag racing was everything that could happen.
Milestones, once considered unattainable, sooner or later collapsed under the onslaught of talent pilots, mechanics engineering genius and managerial skills of heads of teams. In connection with the start of the new season in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, we decided to give a small list of epochal barriers that finally may fall this year, and simultaneously discuss how this is possible in today's realities.

200-mile barrier in class Pro Stock Motorcycles

C 2012 to overcome this milestone has been one of the main purposes for pilots only professional two-wheel class in the NHRA in addition to winning the championship and the pursuit of the number of Wally. During the past Hector Arana Jr. season behind the wheel of his Lucas Oil Buell managed to get as close to this mark with a score of 199.88 mph at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals. A little later, his father Hector Arana Sr. Inglishtaune crossed the finish line at a speed of 199.26 mph. In addition, both drivers, played for the team Harley-Davidson, Eddie Kravik (199.26 mph) and Andrew Hines (199.23 mph) were also very close to the record-breaking achievement.
In total in the history of the class happened six 199-mile races.
There is every reason to believe that under optimal weather conditions and, as they say, that tailwind hitherto impregnable line submit to one, and maybe a few drivers. In 2015, many were very skeptical about the possibility of departure from 3.7 seconds in the class Top Fuel, but we all remember how quickly everything fell into place.

Two goals in Indianapolis

Thirty-two times in fifteen American strips, certified the NHRA, some drivers are so fortunate and stable that we could win in two classes on the basis of a single Event, but it never occurred to one of the most prestigious events in the championship calendar — Chevrolet Performance US Nationals, which is traditionally held in Indianapolis.
The first was almost designed a double Pat Austin in 1991.
The racer won the class Top Alcohol Funny Car, but it summed up the technique during bernauta in the final race against Kenny Bernstein, who eventually became the winner in the class Top Fuel, despite the fact that his solo run was, frankly, a disaster. Five years later, Scotty Richardson became the first in the class Stock, but could not defeat in the decisive match of Bill Yates driving dregster Super Comp. The last pilot, who had all the chances to take away from the Indianapolis two Wally, was David Rampe, who put in his piggy bank trophy in the Super Comp class, but «merged» in the finals of the competition in the Comp class. By and large U.S. Nationals is no different from other's Event of the national championship, but apparently the cult status of the event too much pressure on the psyche of athletes. Anyway, more than likely that in the coming season double victory in Indianapolis will decorate the championship.

Female champion in the class of Funny Car

We have repeatedly talked about the fair half of racers in the world of drag racing. Girls has been for many decades feel quite at ease in the society of brutal men, for which overload familiar except that astronauts and fighter pilots have become quite commonplace. And eight titles on their account — a direct confirmation.
However, to this day the crown in the classroom Funny Car for pilotess remains impregnable.
Closest crept up to the first place in the standings in the championship eldest daughter of John Force — Ashley, became vice-champion in 2009 and finished third in 2010. However, after retiring from the sport, fortune seemed to definitively turned away from the ladies. Currently on a permanent basis in the championship involved two racers — DeZhoria Alexis and Courtney Force, which does not hurt sponsorship, and some of the best professionals in their work teams. Anyway, Alexis took eighth place last season, and Courtney is not even out in the Countdown To The Championship. Both the pilots proved that they can win at the event, but for the individual championship success is not enough. We do not lose hope and continue to believe in the racers, but judging by the statistics of recent years is likely to luck they did not smile this year.

Unbeaten in Countdown To The Championship

Back in 1976 Don Prudhomme skated all season, losing only once in the races Shootout. Since then, nobody has been able to repeat this outstanding result. But it is worth recalling that at that time in the calendar of the national championship there were only eight steps, and in the coming season there will be twenty-four. For four decades, the number of participants has increased substantially, and efficiency of motors has increased several times. In today's talk about the pilots who do not make mistakes, just stupid, and in the context of machinery that operates at maximum capacity, unbeaten looks possible only in Hollywood films.
But what about the great playoff series, consisting of six stages?
To do this, the pilot is required to prevail in the twenty-four rounds in a row, as well as in 2008 in the class of eight-time champion Tony Schumacher Top Fuel remained unbeaten throughout the thirty-one-In Shootout similar layout seems more than likely. Last year, Erica Enders Stephens very effectively performed at the final stage of the championship, becoming the first in three of the six events and won eighteen races, only three times in defeat. Anyway, even nineteen victories in modern sport still seem infinitely far away from the ideal result in the series Countdown To The Championship.
In any case, the 2016 season is already at the start, and to inflame the passions and intrigues of the quality he is unlikely to give way to the previous one. So we wait and see.
