To be substantive, Audi have confirmed their words about the upcoming era of car hybridisation. The company reports that by 2020 each Audi model will be featuring a hybrid version.

According to preliminary information, Audi will build two new families of hybrid powertrains, however, they will be using different platforms. Although there is no word yet which platforms exactly. One of them — the MQB (on photo) — is designed for relatively compact models with transverse engine orientation. Using drivetrains mounted longitudinally in larger vehicles is still an open question.

An interesting fact is that electric motor will be mounted between the petrol-powered engine and the gearbox.

The recently unveiled A1 e-tron model has not fully satisfied the company. The petrol-powered engine in its powertrain produces electricity, which is not the best solution according to company’s representatives. They assume that the major task of a petrol engine is rotation of driving wheels.

Things are humming and there is still time to calibrate all the ideas and take the best out of them.
