Aston Martin, a child of the sun

No, Aston Martin have not joined the hippie commune. Instead, they have signed an agreement with a company dealing with solar batteries. It means that quite soon race cars will get additional solar power.

“We are interested in adapting our world leading thin film solar technologies for cars, so that, for example, a thin layer of cells can be applied to the roof or rear windscreen to power the air-conditioning or other ancillary functions without affecting the performance of the car or using the fuel or battery source”, said Jason Chow, Executive President of Hanergy Global Solar Power & Applications Group.

An agreement has been signed with Aston Martin’s racing department. Endurance races with cars equipped with solar batteries — that’s an extraordinary solution. After all, these cars are fitted with 8-cylinder engines delivering 600 hp and 700 Nm of torque.

By the way, in 2014 one of Aston Martin’s factory teams won the GTE Am drivers' title in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Well, hopefully it doesn’t rain.
