Isle of Islay in Scotland is one of the most important places in the history of Land Rover. More than 60 years ago, this is where the iconic off-road brand got its name.
Spencer Wilks (Spencer Wilks), while he was the Managing Director of the car company Rover, owned an estate Laggala (Laggan Estate) on the island of Islay. In 1947, when Spencer was driving his modified Rover 12 cross-country ranger estates Ian Frazer (Ian Fraser), hinting at the car's ability to overcome a heavy off-road Spencer, I noted that this model was to be called «Land Rover». Thus was born the legendary name.
To commemorate this significant event company Jaguar Land Rover is a unique film about the history of the emergence of the cult name, shot on the island of Islay and dedicated 67 years of continuous release of Land Rover Series I, II and III, as well Defender.
For the filming of various versions of the classic Land Rover and Defender, including pick-up 1954 Series I, Series IIa 88 «Tilt 1965 and Series III 109» Station Wagon 1980, went to the island of Islay. This tour also included a visit to the distillery Kilchoman, owned by Kathy Wills (Kathy Wills), great-granddaughter of Spencer Wilks.
Known for its scenic spaces, hilly, and one of the best whiskeys in the world, the island of Islay was the secret test site for the first production Land Rover in the late 1940s. Later, the brothers Wilks repeatedly returned to the island, experiencing the next generation of the iconic SUV.
