V8 Niki

The things are going that way that people enjoy something very big or very small, this particularly happens with cars. That’s why the smallest city cars or big pickups or SUV’s always seem quite unusual unlike midsize mass market automobiles. The most interesting happens when big engine is put into the small body as it happened for Fiat 500 and Smart we’ve written before. But the highest level for such tuning in my humble opinion is to keep original car dimensions.

And Australians are the leaders again. Definitely, the geographical isolation influences not only the nature but the people as well. Banks family, the father and five sons managed to build around the biturbo Holden V8 the very small Polish Fiat 126. You may ask “why to build around?” I have no idea how to squeeze such big drivetrain into such small body! But surely the experience of all constructors was mentioned — Dan Banks is a mechanic, his father works with metal and brothers are quite diversified: a baker, a physiologist, a fine arts degree and a horticulturist.

No doubt such different background was used to generate ideas while this car was built. The engine was placed in the trunk, which originally is in the front of this car and in the interior remained two seats a roll cage, few instruments with control lamps and enormous wheel arched for drag slicks. The tail shaft dimensions remind us how tiny the car is — 390 centimeters. So you can wrap it into A3 sheet of paper. Transmission used for this Fiat is T700 Automatic from Holden and differential was taken from VN Commodore. There is lack of information about this car but approximate power is 300 hp. We hope that soon we’ll know more details and figures.
