More electric cars for Moscow

As reported by the Moscow news agency M24, 250 new electric vehicle charging stations will be launched in the Russian capital by 2015. Right now there are only 50 of them. A proper network of charging stations should appear in Moscow within the next 2–3 years.

As reported by the Moscow news agency M24, 250 new electric vehicle charging stations will be launched in the Russian capital by 2015. Right now there are only 50 of them. A proper network of charging stations should appear in Moscow within the next 2–3 years.

Unlike Sweden or Norway, there is no electric vehicle boom observed here, which is fair enough. However, there is a need for more charging stations, as there are obviously not many of them in Moscow — just around 50. And that is not enough for proper functioning of electric vehicles. Moscow’s government officials intend to solve this problem.

“All organisations are involved. Mosenergo [Russian power generating company] has signed an agreement with the city officials to build 150 electric vehicle charging stations. The more they build, the more electric vehicles will be able to join the city traffic”, said Pavel Livinsky, Head of the Department of Fuel and Energy of Moscow.

According to the previously announced strategy of developing the network of electric vehicle charging stations, they should appear at the park-and-ride facilities, transport hubs near the metro stations, and pay parking areas in the centre of Moscow.
