Time to set some records!

It is difficult to underestimate the importance of the event which has happened to the Russian motorsports recently — a records working group was created at the High-speed Motorsports Committee of the Russian Automobile Federation. It is headed by Andrey Sergeevich Mishin.

It is difficult to underestimate the importance of the event which has happened to the Russian motorsports recently — a records working group was created at the High-speed Motorsports Committee of the Russian Automobile Federation. It is headed by Andrey Sergeevich Mishin.

In fact, record-setting runs form a separate discipline in motorsports and a lot of attention is paid to them all over the world. There are even huge global events dedicated to setting various records, including time and speed records. The most outstanding examples are the Speed Week and World Finals held in Bonneville, USA. Each year hundreds or even thousands of people wishing to set one more record visit these events.

In Russia, the idea of similar festival has been in the air for quite a long time already, however, a lot of components had to be put together in order to implement it. Meanwhile, various records have been set individually and it has always been rather difficult to collect all the necessary papers and organise the event.

Now, when we have the working group dealing with these issues, the situation should change, simplifying the entire procedure of record setting and developing this discipline on a large-scale level.

Moreover, the idea of conducting a festival of speed is also gaining momentum. The Russian festival Unlim 500+ will be used as a “trial run” of this idea. The festival will be held for the twelfth time on the dynamometric runway of the Dmitrovsky practice ground.

All participants of the Unlim 500+ festival will be able to register their runs as record-setting attempts. Different distances will be available for such attempts — ¼ mile, ½ mile, and 1 km. It will be possible to set both speed and time records.
