Rimac Concept One is the name of an electric car first revealed at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 2011. It was created by a small Croatian company — the fact that is already outside the box. Another fact that the car manufacturing company was founded by a 21-year-old man is absolutely out-of-line. During the first demonstration of this car, its owners announced “Napoleon’s plans” to produce 88 electric supercars, each costing $1 million.
However, the entire picture is not that fantastic and unreal as it might appear at first sight. Even taking into consideration that the carmaker is little known and its founder is young. According to Tech EU, the Croatian project has already found several serious investors confident of success. Particularly, it’s a Columbian millionaire, Frank Yepes, who runs (no prizes for guessing) energy and oil business. He is also an investor in the Formula E electric car championship. The second investor is Sinocop Resources Corp, a company based in Hong Kong, which has already purchased a 10% stake in the Rimac.
Production is also partially funded by means of money deposited by first six customers for their future electric cars. Apart from that, Rimac has its secret “wallet”. It owns a brand called Greyp, which produces electric bicycles. Right now they are in such great demand that the company plans to increase Greyp’s personnel by half by the end of this year.
Electric powerplant of the Concept One comprises four electric motors pushing out about 1,000 hp and 3,790 Nm of torque in total. The car sprints to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds while its top speed is 305 km/h.
The most delicate aspect of each electric car is its travel distance. The manufacturer claims this car to travel 600 km on one charge. A feather in the manufacturer's cap is the fact that the Concept One was almost entirely designed and built in Croatia. Rimac is already hatching a plan of selling their know-how to other companies. Developments made by the Croatian company might be useful for other manufacturers of various types of electric vehicles.
