One Golf for 400 horses

There are only a few days left before the beginning of the Motor Show in Beijing. Volkswagen will unveil a boosted version of the Golf R there. Two-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine produces 400 hp and 450 Nm of torque instead of 300 hp produced by the standard version.

There are only a few days left before the beginning of the Motor Show in Beijing. Volkswagen will unveil a boosted version of the Golf R there. Two-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine produces 400 hp and 450 Nm of torque instead of 300 hp produced by the standard version.

As reported by Autocar, the powerplant will be coupled with dual clutch DSG gearbox. It will take Golf just 3.9 seconds to accelerate to 100 km/h! Top speed is electronically limited at 282 km/h in order not to offer too much temptation to drivers.

Golf lost 100 kg of weight, got rid of rear seats and uses carbon fibre in body elements. Teaser images show the car in a special silver metallic paint with yellow accents and wide wheel arches.

Unfortunately, no mass production is planned so far. The standard Golf R version went on sale in Russia in October 2013. The model with six-speed manual transmission has the price tag of 1,676,000 RUB (approx. €34,000) while the one fitted with DSG semi-automatic gearbox costs 1,754,000 RUB (approx. €35,700). The boosted vehicle might strike everyone’s fancy and still go in production.
