A retro supercar Speedback GT based on the Jaguar XKR platform will be revealed at the Top Marques Luxury Show in Monaco on April 17 by the British company David Brown Automotive which started operating this year, as we have reported earlier. According to corpomir.ru, the car was hand-crafted. It is based on the rear-wheel drive current-generation Jaguar XKR chassis and is fitted with a 5-litre supercharged V8 coupled with six-speed automatic transmission.
The major task of the engineers was to create a laconic combination of modern equipment and retro-appearance of the car which would not irritate its future owner.
There is no word about its technical specifications yet but the Jaguar XKR accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. Its top speed is 250 km/h. It is still unknown whether the Speedback GT would also feature similar performance. Anyhow, the major focus is on sports car’s appearance. For instance, all switches in the cabin are made via a process known as direct metal laser sintering: each detail is nickel alloy melted and shaped by lasers in layers only 63-microns thick. Indeed, this car is intended for those enthusiasts who like going into detail.
It is expected that the first Speedback edition will be limited to 50 units. However, if demand rises, the production will be increased to 200 units. As reported by motor.ru, David Brown, the begetter and owner of the company, says the price of the vehicle is also going to be “jewellery” — meaning six-figure.
