The Government of Moscow dropped the idea of building the new autodrome at the level of Formula 1. As it was reported earlier a track which could host F1 races was to be built by the year 2016 in the area near Moscow. Hermann Tilke, who designed the majority of Formula tracks, including the one in Sochi, was to project the circuit.
The Head of Moskomstroyinvest Konstantin Timofeev made a definite statement: “The idea of building a Formula 1 track took shape in Sochi. There are no plans on building a Formula 1 track which could host one of grand prix of the world championship in Moscow”.
Hopefully, the project in Vnukovo might still get a second wind. In the meantime, let’s focus on the fact that for the first time in its history Russia is going to host one of the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Sochi on October 10–12, 2014.
