In 2009 the Lamborghini company reported about development of hybrid and bio-fuel supercars and also announced its plan to achieve a 35% reduction in the CO2 emissions produced by its vehicles by the year 2015. All in all, Lamborghini planed to make €35 million investments into building more eco-friendly premium cars.
A Lamborghini Ankonian concept car became one of such developments. It is based on the super expensive and super exclusive Lamborghini Reventon but has its unique values. It has a rather aggressive exterior and an elongated narrow bodyshell. Also it can be classified as a nature-friendly “eco-mobile”.
Ankonian is Lamborghini’s revolutionary development. The author of this concept car is a young designer Slavche Tanevski who worked together with professionals from Lamborghini and Audi. This student of the Munich University of Applied Sciences has already taken part in projects for Mini, Volkswagen, Mercedes and BMW. A German of Yugoslavian origin (born in Macedonia) was inspired by the configuration and exterior of the tactical strike aircraft Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk built with stealth technology. It took Slavche half a year to create a clay-model of the all-new vehicle.
DID YOU KNOW... that following the tradition set by Ferruccio Lamborghini (the creator of the brand) all cars produced by the company have bull-themed names. Matt black stylish Ankonian was named after a bull famous for its black coat and also its aggression sometimes falling into the state of madness.
Lamborghini Ankonian has a thin bodyshell with a complex silhouette featuring classic proportions of a GT car. Its general layout (and especially its rear part) makes you think that the car has just leaped from the pages of a superhero comic book. The Ankonian concept has already been unofficially nicknamed as a “BatMobile” due to the combination of its smooth and streamline shapes with sharp edges. The visually hunched backwards cabin, the narrow and smooth bodyshell, the short rear overhang — all these features seem to embody velocity. Forged wheels make the car look even more sophisticated.
It’s typical for premium cars to mate aggression and elegancy and black colour just adds to the impression of rage and fury with the help of iconic OLEDs headlights. With no light, the dark headlights and tinted windows seem to blend with the colour of the car making it look monolithic.
DID YOU KNOW... that the company Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. is an affiliate of Audi AG which, in its turn, is part of the huge Volkswagen AG auto group. Lamborghini produces super speed premium cars able to accelerate up to 350 km/h and more. Right now the production capacity of the Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. car manufacturing company allows producing up to 2,000 vehicles per year.
Everything has been brought to perfection when designing the car’s interior. Special attention was paid to the ergonomics of the cabin and driver’s seat so that the pilot of this concept was able to handle this powerful car with comfort and ease. The interior is trimmed with high-quality natural leather custom-made for the Lamborghini Ankonian.
Little is known about the car’s specifications. It is going to be a two-seat two-door front-engined rear-wheel drive coupé. Ankonian is going to be fitted with a mighty powertrain — 6.5-litre V10 producing 650 hp at 8,000 rpm.
This superhero vehicle will be able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds with its top speed reaching 340 km/h. The environmental compatibility of the car lies in placing a small electric motor near the rear axle thanks to which the fuel consumption rate will be reduced to “just” 21.5 litres. Apparently, the major engine might be also set up to be powered by bio-fuel.
INTERESTING TO KNOW. The first Lamborghini racing car made its first appearance in 1963 in Turin. It proved that Ferruccio Lamborghini, the creator of the super speed car, was able to produce racing cars as good as those built by Enzo Ferrari. Although, initially Lamborghini was focused on manufacturing excellent tractors.
Phenomenal aerodynamics is achieved due to large air intakes located all over the bodyshell. These inlets also allow conducting air cooling of all automobile’s mechanisms.
The concept is composed out of several units — rear bumper and wings belong to the bonnet while the entire front part of the car is united with the trunk lid. All body parts are made of super-tough composite materials.
Ankonian is going to cost quite a lot — Lamborghini plans to set the price at about 50 million RUB (approx. 1 million euro).
DID YOU KNOW... that Lamborghini Reventon, the Ankonian’s predecessor, holds the fifth position in the top ten world’s most expensive cars with the price of $1,700,000 (a coupé version). It is the most expensive vehicle in the entire Lamborghini’s lineup of street-legal cars. All in all, only 20 units of Lamborghini Reventon were produced.
The Ankonian concept appeared in 2012 and exists only on paper and as a 3D virtual version. Its production is planned for the year of 2016.
However, it’s possible that this car might never appear or would remain nothing more than a project for an indefinite period of time. Lamborghini's CEO Stephan Winkelmann made a categorical statement in his recent interview that as long as it was possible, the company would “stay true to its DNA”. However, he left open the possibility of adding hybrids and engines powered by alternative types of fuel “in the course of time”. Although, if they remove the electric motor from the Ankonian, then…
