Don’t expect a Lexus van

Lexus was addressed with a petition to start producing vans. As reported by the Automotive News, this initiative came from the large Japanese Toyota-Lexus dealers and was supported in China and other parts of Asia by the company’s dealerships.

The major argument in favour of this request was that there was not enough room in the flagship LS sedan for the back seat passengers. It also failed to perform the role of a mobile office, a conference room, a taxi for several people or even an emergency catnap.

“If I go out to dinner with four people, I can’t take my chauffeured LS,” one of the dealers complained and stated that he prefers a Toyota Alphard van instead of an LS in such cases. “There is space to change my clothes, and I can go to a funeral and a wedding in the same day.”

Let us remind that Lexus lineup consists of ten models — five sedans, two SUVs, one hatchback, one crossover and a coupé. Lexus dropped the idea of building a van. All in all, Lexus is quite busy right now extending its lineup (the NX compact crossover and the RC coupé) and it doesn’t have plans on building a wheeled office or a mobile cloakroom.
