Chrysler ordered crushing 93 rare first-generation Dodge Viper sports cars. Society is indignant as these cars had been donated to the US museums and educational establishments and now the company decided to get them back and destroy.

A lot of test prototypes were built when creating the first generation of the Dodge Viper. Those vehicles were not certified and did not comply with the emission requirements of the United States. Also they were not equipped with the speed limiters. In its official statement, Chrysler says that prototypes are subject to destruction as the company does not need them anymore.

The first-generation Dodge Viper was produced from 1992 through 1995. It was fitted with an 8-litre V10 delivering 400 hp and 630 Nm of torque. The engine was coupled with the six-speed manual transmission. It is noteworthy that it lacked ABS. It could sprint to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.

So then, due to the decision taken by the company, which was allegedly based on the uselessness of the first prototypes, 93 vehicles will be brutally destroyed together with a part of Chrysler’s history. “It’s like punishing everyone for the mistakes made by one”, Scot Keller, chief curator at the US museum, said in one of his interviews. Nevertheless, several cars have already been destroyed.
