Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation unveiled a detailed list of cars which, according to government officials, fall under the category of luxury vehicles and are therefore subject to incremental tax rate. The law was put in force on January 1st, 2014 and according to it, the owners of vehicles worth more than RUB 3 million (approx. 60,500 Euro) will have to pay additional levy.
The law adopted in July 2013 introduces coefficients increasing the transportation tax rate on luxury cars. In particular, for the vehicles with an average price of RUB 3–5 million manufactured less than 1 year ago the coefficient is set at 1.5; for the cars manufactured 1–2 years ago it is set at 1.3; for the cars manufactured 2–3 years ago the coefficient is set at 1.1. Further on the tax is paid at a regular rate.
The tax would be double for the cars with an average price of RUB 5–10 million (approx. 100,000–200,000 Euro). It would be triple for vehicles 10 years old or less and valued at RUB 10–15 million (approx. 200,000–300,000 Euro). The same coefficient is suggested for the cars valued at RUB 15–20 million (approx. 300,000–400,000 Euro) 20 years old or less.
The Russian Federation Ministry of Industry and Trade had to compile a precise list of car makes and models. This list included the following vehicles with the price over RUR 3 million:
