Fans of Bugatti were hoping for quite a long time and feeding on rumours that the company was going to build the so-called Super Veyron with an engine producing 1600 hp. They were also hoping that the model range would include Galibier based on 16C concept. As it turned out, all hopes were in vain. The company’s boss denied any possibility of designing neither the first one, nor the second.
Dr Wolfgang Schreiber, the current Bugatti boss, had already stated several times that he was fully satisfied with the performance of the existing Veyron Super Sport version. According to Schreiber, 1200 metric horsepower is enough and there will be no more. In his recent Top Gear interview, Schreiber set the record straight: «We will not produce a Super Veyron or Veyron Plus, definitely. There will be no more power. 1200 PS is enough for the chapter of Veyron and its derivatives.»
What concerns 16С Galibier fastback, the concept of which was revealed in 2009, it is also not going to production lines in spite of previous statements made by Bugatti management that the company was planning to start its serial production. According to the company’s boss, who was key in the development of the Veyron, Galibier might compromise the Bugatti brand as an ultimate supercar manufacturer in the world. “It's easier for current owners, and others who are interested, to understand if we do something similar to the Veyron. And that is what we will do. There will not be a four-door Bugatti”, said Schreiber.
There is almost no information about the new masterpiece of Bugatti engineers as of today. It is possible that it will be featuring a hybrid powertrain. Production of the current model will continue throughout this and next years. According to Schreiber, they have already sold 407 out of 450 Veyron cars planned for production.
