In the middle of next year, Infiniti will reveal its most compact SUV. According to road test spy photos of the upcoming QX30, it is not intended to be used outside the well-paved roads.
The new model will be produced at a Nissan plant in Sunderland, U.K. together with the Q30 hatchback. Formula 1 Champion Sebastian Vettel was fully involved in its development.
The QX30 is likely to carry Renault’s engine lineup under its bonnet, including the 1.5-litre diesel and 1.6-litre petrol-powered turbocharged engine delivering 190 hp. As reported by Auto Evolution, the Xtronic CVT gearbox will be offered as standard. The company also plans to build a high-performance version of the baby SUV fitted with a petrol-powered turbocharged engine tuned to develop 260 hp.
The Mercedes-Benz GLA will become QX30’s main rival; however, the new Infiniti will have a longer wheelbase. This tells us that the passengers should expect a rather spacious cabin. As for the SUV’s off-road performance, things are not going fine here. Judging by the first photos, the car’s road height does not inspire any field trips to the woods or mountains. Anyway, such cars have never been intended for conquering off-road terrain.
