Three tuning variants of the Scion FR-S sports car (a counterpart to the Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT86) were specially built for SEMA show. Three media outlets competed in the Tuner Challenge — Super Street, Speedhunters and GT Channel.

This modification competition is held for the second time. All media outlets had a Scion FR-S sports car and 90 days to make it one-of-a-kind. All three of them were able to cope with the task on time.

The guys at Super Street decided to build a yellow coupé. The engine was uprated and its sound was modified with the help of the Borla exhaust system. They fitted the car with KW Clubsport coilovers, Eibach rear camber kit, and six-piston front & four-piston rear Wilwood brakes. Super Street’s Scion has a new front splitter, side skirts and rear spoiler. Wheel arches were extended to fit 18-inch wheels. On the inside, the FR-S got Recaro sports seats.

Speedhunters created a white race car. A power boost was provided with the help of a Cosworth supercharger kit and a 3-inch single exit exhaust. Most of the interior was removed from the vehicle. This Scion was fitted with a roll cage, race-spec steering wheel and seats. It also got a front splitter and wider wheel arches. It features new rearview mirrors, one-piece boot lid spoiler and rear diffuser. Taillights were tinted. The car rides on Rotiform BLQ wheels with brushed step lip and matte gold centres wearing Nitto tyres.

The car customised by GT Channel uses a grey colour scheme, which in no way makes it look less impressive than other variants. An HKS GT supercharger kit and a Ganador exhaust system were used to make the car more powerful. Scion’s exterior was modified with the help of new bumpers, side skirts, spoiler fitted on the carbon fibre boot lid, and revised lighting units. Black wheels were used to match carbon fibre elements.
