Mercedes builds road-legal forced AMG GT

Mercedes considers an extreme road-legal version of the AMG GT supercar.

In 2016, the track-focused AMG GT should replace the SLS in racing competitions. At the moment, the company’s officials consider building another version of the race car, which should rival the Porsche 911 GT3 both on tracks and public roads.

AMG head Tobias Moers told Autocar about it: “I don’t want to make a dragster that’s only good for doing 0–100 km/h in 2.8 seconds. We need more power, less weight, better aerodynamics and different suspension but the targets should be the power-to-weight ratio, driveability, lap time and tremendous feel.”

The task faced by the engineers is to make the supercar faster. The AMG GT is expected to be at least 10 seconds quicker than the base GT — its previous Nürburgring record was 7 minutes 30 seconds.
