After the resignation of one of Hyundai’s heads, the automaker plans to build an all-new compact sports car.

Hyundai's European operations head, Allan Rushforth, said he is leaving the company to join Nissan. In the meantime, the Korean automaker is involved in other thoughts. It plans to produce 22 new cars by 2017.

For the moment, the company considers building a new sports car, which should become a landmark in Hyundai’s history. “Cars like these, such as the Audi TT, create a huge demand when they’re new, but then that dies off quickly,” Allan Rushforth said.

Noteworthy is the fact that the new model would come from the performance division, which is preparing a race car for the World Rally Championship. The automaker’s N division, which deals with building high-performance Hyundai models, will also take a piece of action.
