The Swedish engineers from Polestar came after Volvo SUVs.

Apart from building high-performance versions of Volvo passenger cars fitted with diesel powertrains of the Drive-E family, the company decided to tackle SUVs. “And maybe to start with we can do a small one, with the XC60 and then we can do the XC90- I can definitely see that happening in the future," said Polestar CEO Christian Dahl about the further company’s goals.

Two petrol- and two diesel-powered 2.0-litre Drive-E engines pumping out from 190 to 320 hp will be built for the new Volvo XC90. The top-of-the-range version is fitted with a hybrid powertrain delivering 400 hp and 640 Nm of torque.

As a bonus, the company will create an R-Design sports package with the new body kit and original interior trimming.
