Volvo considers adding some lustre to its brand with the help of an offbeat sports car, which might become a successor to the C70 convertible (on picture).
The Swedish automaker sets its wits to add some glamorous touch to the marque. Volvo's research and development chief Peter Mertens assures his colleagues that now is the time to build a great sports car, which should change the company’s history. He also wants to improve the current models, making them more attractive.
“Safety and only safety would never be enough. The combination of safety and sexy design is what we are going to play with”, said Peter Mertens in his interview to Motoring.
In this light, we should expect a new sports car from Volvo, as quite recently the company has started developing the SPA modular platform. Volvo considers building the new model based on this platform.
Anyway, everything is good in its season. First, the company has to wrap up the work on the next-generation S60 sedan, the XC60 crossover SUV, and the S90 flagship sedan.
