GM pulls the brake

Yet another news from the American company General Motors. This time it recalls more than 200,000 cars over parking brake issues.

Yet another news from the American company General Motors. This time it recalls more than 200,000 cars over parking brake issues.

The problem is that the brake's indicator light sometimes failed to illuminate while the brake was not fully retracted. “If the vehicle is operated for an extended period of time in this condition, there is a potential for the rear brakes to generate significant heat, smoke and sparks," said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

However, the company stays calm and demonstrates its awareness of the situation: “GM is not aware of any crashes, injuries or fatalities as a result of this condition”.

Nevertheless, GM hurried over to return the cars back to the factory. On the whole, the company is recalling 221,558 cars — Cadillac XTS from the 2013–2015 model years and Chevrolet Impala from the 2014 and 2015 model years.

But that’s not all. Previously, General Motors and Chrysler were going to recall several more thousands of cars over a faulty brake master cylinder piston that causes the vehicles to overheat and leads to the fires.
